All Seconds or No Second

If you love the sun
for its brightness,
Only the clear days
Will fill your emotions.
If you love the moon
for its scintillating glow,
only the vivid nights
will placate your affections.
If you love the ocean
for its tenacious waves,
only its cool breeze
will impress your feelings.
If you love the world
with your heart and soul.
then you will love it
for all its shade.
And if you don’t love
the world for its vile shade.
then, you mustn’t live in it–
not even for a second.
