Can Nigeria win the fight against COVID-19?

To be honest, Nigeria can’t win this fight against COVID-19, I will give my reasons in detail.

COVID -19 will have to leave Nigeria on its own accord. The major epidemic I think we have in Nigeria is not COVID -19, it’s corruption. If corruption is not dead in Nigeria COVID -19 or coronavirus or any other pandemic can’t be fought. Here’s why:

We simply don’t have all the materials and resources we need to control COVID -19 to fight it in my country. Billions of Naira and materials worth millions have been donated from different quarters, the question is where are they? Who are those hindering it from getting to the masses?

Nigerians are being told to take precautions but with what exactly? Yes, soap and water are available to people, what about facemasks and gloves? Let’s see it from this angle, what of those rural areas where they don’t get to enjoy basic social amenities like water, electricity, what would become of them. Let’s not go far, what of the homeless, the beggars who don’t have a home? Or what of the poor Nigerian who works on a daily basis to keep soul and body together?

Our economy is fast crashing, yet state and federal government declared lockdown. Lockdown with no supplies, with no food, with no money. Lockdown no doubt is a very effective way of curbing the spread of this deadly nuisance (virus), but not in a country like Nigeria, how do we survive with this lockdown and hunger in the stomach? This lockdown will only favor the rich and not the masses. Major countries where the virus hits more were been paid, every citizen, not only paid, also being supplied with foods and drugs. Nigeria is not ready for a lockdown. Covid-19 is a deadly disease, but hunger is more deadly.

Furthermore, our government neglects the important things, the first thing they could have done was to close the major borders, unfortunately, the virus is gaining ground and there is little that can be done to prevent its fast spread.

Our supposed heroes (doctors), went on strike in the midst of a pandemic. It’s not their fault at all, if they are being paid as they should, they’ll be up to the task.

Lastly, let’s all remember God and pray earnestly since he is the only one who can save us completely both from the virus and incompetent leaders. Let’s also remember, prevention is better than cure. Wash your hands, sanitize and eat healthy foods. #staysafeNigerians.
