MY DESIRES
Series 1
By Abubakar Balqees Opeyemi, 100 level MELL
I just finished my morning adhkhar (supplications) when mum called me from her room. I answered and hurriedly rushed to her room where she gave me some money to get certain food items from the market.
As I stood by the roadside waiting for a bike, a fair tall handsome but poor looking man crossed from the other side of the road and approached me.
“Asalamunaleikum sister” he said and I responded saying “waleikumsalam” then he proceeded, “My name is Salman, I just moved to this area last week. Iโฆ” he wanted to continue but I said “young man, I’m in a hurry”. He still wanted to continue and I made my way out on him.
“A whole me Aisha, Omolayo, Abike, the first child of five children from a single mother, will now waste my precious time on a poor looking man, hell no!” I said to myself.
As I trecked down the road, hoping to find a bike, a car stopped before me and inside it car was a dark handsome guy. He said to me “Hey baby girl” and I responded with a smile on my face saying “Hi” He offered me a ride to wherever I was going and as a 21st century girl, I thought it was normal and I entered his car with a smile on my face. I told him I was going to the market and he was pleased with it.
The guy said his name was Abdulqodri and he was a business man, he said he came down to kwara State from Lagos State on a business trip. I also introduced myself, “my name is Aisha Omolayo but my friends call me Layo and I’m a 200level English Language student of Unilorin”.
“Has anyone ever told you that you are pretty?” He asked and I said “yes”. He looked at me and smiled then said “really?”(in form of question)and I said “yes”. “You sound bold”, he said again and I said “that’s because I’m bold”. “I like you for that and I don’t mind seeing you again” he said. I smiled and said to myself happily “finally I’ve caught a big fish”.
Abdulqodri and I exchanged contacts and he promised to call me. He dropped me at the central market and also gave me the sum of ten thousand naira for recharge card before he zoomed off.
“Did he really Called me?”
