There’s a saying, “Dress how you will like to be addressed.”
While appearing on the suit, people will address you the way you appear beautifully and rightly on it.
Here are the ten right ways to wear your suits and stand out in your workplace or amongst your peers.
1. GO FOR WHAT IS COMFORTABLE ON YOU AND SAY NO TO BAGGY TROUSERS: Wear suits that you feel confident and comfortable in, the suit design that resonates more with your personality and body structure. Avoid too tight or too floppy.
2. THE LAST BUTTON SHOULD ALWAYS BE OPENED: In 2-buttons suits, the top button should be fastened leaving the second button unfastened, in 3-buttons the first two buttons should be fastened while standing.
The last button of your suit is purely for aesthetic purposes. You don’t need to bother with it. Keep it open. Always!
The bottom button of the vest/waistcoat must always be unbuttoned too
3. UNFASTEN THE BUTTONS WHILE SITTING DOWN: Irrespective of the number of buttons, suit button(s) must be unfastened while seated.
4. SHIRT CUFFS SHOULDN’T GO OVER THE HANDS: The shirt sleeve cuff/length should be cut half an inch to where the suit hand length ends.
5. SOCKS SHOULD ALWAYS COVER YOUR LEGS: Make sure you wear long socks that even when seated your bare leg cannot be shown.
And the socks cannot be white. Avoid them!
6. CONSIDER THE LENGTH OF THE TROUSERS: The trouser length of your suit should drop exactly on your shoes, not folding on the shoes or short to the shoes.
7. CONSIDER YOUR SKIN-COLOUR/COMPLEXION WHILE CHOOSING A SUIT COLOUR: If you’re very dark, always opt for a brighter shaded colored shirt and vice – versa.
8. REMOVE THE BRAND LABELS: Always remove the brand labels and open the back vent(s) before wearing your suits.
9. SHOES SHOULD ALWAYS COMPLEMENT THE COLOUR OF YOUR SUIT AND BELT SHOULD MATCH WITH YOUR SHOES :
A little mix and match is okay but refrain from having too much color contrast.
10. THE COLOUR OF YOUR TIE HAS TO BE IN CONTRAST WITH YOUR SUIT :
If it’s a dark-colored suit, make sure to get a tie in a lighter shade. And vice versa
Also, the tie-bar should not be wider than the tie. The tip of your tie should be at/just before the buckle of the belt
